SHI Yi (一)

My Artistic Pursuit

by Shi Yi

I believe real art must come from the true heart of the artist.  It is an expression of the artist’s inner self and it is based on the artist’s experiences, civilization and aesthetic pursuit.  Basically, I am a man who is not keen on fame but well trained by the Chinese cultures and many frustrations in the real life.  Therefore, I have a strong preference for peace and tranquility, hoping that harmony can be achieved among people and between people and the nature.  I like to express simple beautiful things, the things that are suppressed by the modern civilization but still remain primitive, and the memorable things that are about to disappear in the human history.

I hope to construct a purified land in my artwork, a world that is true, nice and beautiful.  It will be mental refuge for people to be away from the hectic world.  It will be a spring found in the desert or the sunrise beam after a sleepless night to give people joy and hope.  My ideal for life is to treasure life and to fill our world and nature with love.  So is my artistic pursuit.
